Does your golf game need improvement? Green Acres Golf Club offers a range of coaching alternatives designed to suit your requirements and budget. For a tailored program designed specifically for your individual requirements, we recommend a one-on-one lesson with one of the Club's PGA Professionals. Teaching Professional
Gavin Vearing uses the latest computerised teaching aids that will
analyse your game and allow you to visually compare your swing to that
of professionals. We certainly don't expect you to be swinging the club
like Tiger after the first lesson, however golfers often find it very
useful to see their swing for themselves. Before long, we're confident that you'll be well on the way to playing more consistent golf and starting to shave strokes from your handicap. |
Lessons are available on appointment with the Teaching Professional Gavin Vearing, the Director of Golf Simon Angliss, or the Assistant Director of Golf Wendy Berger. Standard coaching availability is as follows:

Club selection around the greens
Our very own Wendy Berger recently wrote an Article for the Golf Victoria magazine about the importance of club selection around the greens. To view the article, click below:
Stretching is beneficial to everyone and there are unique benefits to golfers. Muscular tightness can have an adverse affect on the golfer’s posture and movement patterns. Tightness in specific areas restricts a golfer’s ability to employ efficient swing mechanics and therefore can have a negative effect on their performance and physical wellness. For example, tightness in the hip region (restricting hip rotation) tends to lead to poor pivot technique and therefore lack of power/ accuracy and further musculoskeletal problems.
Tightness can also cause local or referred pain and a reduced range of movement for example, tightness in upper back can cause severe headache and restrict normal neck and/or shoulder movement.Everybody, regardless of age, athletic ability or gender (or handicap)
is capable of improving their flexibility. Performing a golf specific warm up
(including some dynamic movement to warm the muscles and a series of golf
specific stretches) will prepare your body so that you are ‘ready to go’ from
the first tee instead of the 3rd hole!

Posture - Keep your head down!
It is amazing how many times I have heard this saying on the golf course. When a player tops the ball or comes out of the shot they often let cry with the "keep your head down", and for the next few shots they bury their head down into there chest so much that their body can't work very efficiently and often more errant shots result.
The position and role of the head relates to posture. The spine should stay relatively straight with the head on the same angle. When getting into the set up position bend from your hips (bottom out feeling) keep the shoulders back and the head up. This will feel awkward for the first few attempts but after a while it becomes more natural. Once you have this set up position your arms and shoulders can rotate around the spine repeatedly so that there is more consistency in your shots.
Club maintenance - Grips
Keeping your equipment in good working condition will no doubt help you to play better golf. The old saying of 'a tradesman never blames his tools' is still appropriate, unless however the tools are becoming difficult to hold on too! So we feel it is useful to discuss some of the things you can do to help keep your clubs in good working order, particularly the grips.
To keep your grips in their best working condition it is advisable to keep them free of dirt and sweat. The best way to keep them clean is to rinse them off first and then apply powdered AJAX or soap and scrub with a scrubbing brush. This is when you can see how dirty the grips really get as they often hide the majority of built up dirt. After scrubbing, rinse off all the soap and towel dry. The grips will come up looking brand new and feeling tacky again.
For those with grips that are cracked, splitting or shiny then they may be beyond recovery so please come and see us so we can replace them for you. Grips start at a low $8 per club fully fitted.
