Juniors Information

The Green Acres Board established the Golf Development sub committee with the objective of enhancing the standard of golf for all members of Green Acres particularly junior members and those who represent the Club in inter-club (pennant) competitions.

This sub committee also oversees the Junior Development Fund which provides funding sourced from member contributions to encourage the development of junior golfers at Green Acres.

Junior Golf Development Sessions

This is a programme for assimilating junior members into competition play.  The programme involves coaching from the Director of Golf, mentoring from senior players, participation in tournaments  and culminates in potentially participating in the Junior Pennant program.

The programme is run in a small group (maximum of three).  These sessions run during the year and are available for all junior members.  The purpose is to provide more individual coaching concentrating on improving shot making, club selection skills and course management.  The cost for these sessions is funded by the Golf Development Sub committee.

Junior Pennant Programme

The Pennant Programme is designed to support participants in the elite competition conducted  by the VGA and WGV.

Junior Club Tournaments

In addition to the above programmes, Green Acres organises a number of tournaments for their juniors to play in.  These are typically scheduled in the holidays.

Green Acres also supports their junior members by paying for tournament fees for events that are run at other clubs. Please click on "Events" above for more information.

Schools Programme

This is an initiative aimed at new golfers at nearby schools to provide them with an insight into the benefits of playing golf in a members golf club.  Schools are invited to utilise the Club facilities one afternoon a week and are provided with coaching from the Director of Golf as well as guidance on how to conduct themselves in a members golf club environment.  They are taught basic rules , course etiquette and the methodology of the different types of competitions.

Ray Doherty was a strong supporter of junior golf, emphasising not only their playing ability but their approach and attitude towards the game.  A scholarship has been established in his name that provides funding to one or two exceptional juniors per year with the aim of developing both their golfing and life skills.  It is also expected that these young members will then go on to provide valuable support to other juniors who are coming through the junior ranks of the Club.

Recipients of the Scholarship are:

2005/2006 Matt Cowley and Matt Dowling
2006/2007 Oren Golvan
2007/2008 Brett Barratt and Cam Tickell
2008/2009 Jack Bade
2009/2010 Sienna Lambert and Rodger Paul

Donations to this scholarship are always welcome and can be made through the Club office.
